as promised,
here are my history notes which i typed yesterday
Japanese invasion and occupation of Singapore
Lessons learnt
No one country is more superior to another
Western powers are not more powerful than Asian powers
Amazingly, the self proclaimed awesome colonies of the European colonial masters were overrun by the Japanese, an Asian country. The British was of course, no longer considered superior by the people in Singapore.
It seems we do have some pride after all; some locals and other countries did not fight against the Japanese because of their propaganda “Asia for Asians”.
Summing up, we ROCK and RULE ourselves. We’re the best
We ourselves must defend Singapore
We must not be dependent on others to defend our country
Well, glorious people out there, look what happened to wonderful Singapore when the British were defending our country. Yes because you see, the British totally cared for Singapore by sending us their lousiest crap over to beat the zeroes. Shows how negative they are. Oh yes, I forgot to mention, they kept the best for themselves. Oh please, save the best for the last country we live in.
So the government now loves us so much, there’s the formation of some national service compulsory for the poor guys aged 18 and above. Yes, they fortunately have this opportunity of going through torture. And we have the Air force, the Army and the Navy. Next thing we know, it’ll be the Transformers.
Constant upgrade ourselves through the means of weaponry to flaunt and not use, mainly threatening those who want to attack us when we have no natural resources. Noble statement of the year: Singapore may be small, but we always have connections. I mean weapons :D
Good relations with ASEAN as well as super powers like US and China. How contradictory.
Singapore is our homeland, this is where we belong
So after countless national day songs about “this is home” and “where I belong, where I ….” The message steel doesn’t sink in. But fear not, fellow idiots, after the Japanese Occupation, we finally used our brains to think.
Yes, yes. The sad reality of life. The migrants weren’t thinking of us, but their own homeland. ): But credit will be given to the people who fought valiantly like Force 136, (and no that is not some card game), and the MPAJA. Not exactly very creative with the names, but never mind that.
Next up on Don’t Forget the Lyrics, its “One People, One Nation, One Singapore.” Oh how we sing it with pride. So, we stand together despite the differences in races and religion. Just like Shylock and Antonio, what a loving couple.
And yea, kids like us learn about the National Programme in school. Which may be worse than the NS? But we can’t complain. The new Sook Ching is here to destroy.
Sense of loyalty and Racial Harmony Day is to ensure unity and not a free school holiday, but we don’t mind enjoying the benefits.
Countries must be united so that resources can be pooled to fight a common enemy
As the title suggests, be the new survivor and get that inner circle. Remember, the point of the game is to outlive and outlast. So, go find those friends whom you can depend on. Like unity, there’s US and because we need tea to keep awake, go find China.
Established diplomatic relations with others. Singapore is so friendly; we’re even getting environmentally-friendly.
Military co-operation like the Five-Power Defense Arrangements. Note to self: do not confuse with Power Rangers Ultra Violent and Destructive Force. If there’s a threat, the five countries including Malaysia and Britain come together and gossip about it, while watching Gossip Girls.
We must not be dependent on other countries for foodstuffs and other basic necessities.
I knew this was going to come out. I mean, go Geography and high-tech farming.
So, anyway, the government keeps a food stockpile that can feed us for a certain period of time. What fortunate little children we are. Spoon-fed.
Ok, moving on. Here goes,
Why we lost
The Japanese, unlike us, were well-prepared for the war because they trained their soldiers for garden warfare. So Ris Low isn’t the first to start the safari craze, but rather, the Japanese. This brings me to my point that the Japanese were so much more modern than us. I mean, they had the Zeroes. Oh, plus the zeroes behind numbers in terms of quantity. So they were just like any child with pocketfuls and pocketfuls of planes and ships and soldiers and play-dough. Anyway, they had this leader by the name of Lieutenant-General Yamashita who inspired them to do the noblest thing ever. To kill. (Many mockingbirds)
And, Malaya’s soldiers were not experienced unlike the Japanese troops who had fought in Olympics 2008 before. Also, the British were engaged. Okay fine, in some war in Europe so they didn’t send the best man and weaponry and war craft over.
Japanese had strategy by capturing our water, food and ammunition sources.
Lastly, the “Asia for Asians” crap actually worked. Lies, lies. Don’t be gullible, little children out there. The big bad wolf will swallow you and eat you up. Nah, that’s in little red riding hood.
Oh yes, they got Mission Impossible ): Send totally spies, man. So Cheat.
Why Japan KP us
Number 1, they needed raw materials. So, instead of shoplifting, they went to South East Asia because we are rich and they need the $.
Number 2, they were bu shuang with the British because they are allowed to trade less. So when British in war with Europe, they very opportunistic! Go fight us ):
Anyway, life was terrible.
Politically, we had to live under the Japanese rule. So, their policemen called the Kempeitai were very cruel to us. There was even the Sook Ching where men of 18-50 did not have to serve NS, but were brought to this ulu place and were questioned of their loyalty to the Japanese. If they were found guilty, they were killed. But if they were not found out, or innocent, their lives were spared with the “get out of jail free” card and hello kitty stamp. So cool right! And there was the building of some Death Railway with Lego. Exciting, but unfortunately, very tiring.
Then they got Law and Order about some spies reporting about anti- Japanese. So bad ): they betray Singapore. Tortures and threats were given for free. The Japanese also liked to curry favor with the Malays and Indians. That’s why Singapore got curry puff now :D. But steel, Singapore got Anti-Japanese Organizations! British and locals support them okay! They organized guerilla attacks on Japanese by throwing bananas and laugh at them in the zoo.
Then got Economic ): We got Inflation and Shortage. No food, No fuel, and the people all kenna rationed. Introduced Banana notes and got black market. Tsk tsk, like some gambling den.
Lastly, we must have Social problems too, if not too little already.
The people then lived in poor health conditions and suffered from malnutrition. But must remember got curry puff! The Japanese make the students sing the national song, learn Japanese culture and watch Japanese films. No wonder sushi so popular today. Not only that, they control the radio and newspaper.
There was also the treatment of different races. ): Prejudice, protest people.
Allied POWs
Long hours of manual labour
Starved due to shortage of food
Chinese
Regarded as enemies
Examined by the Japanese
Made to build death railway
Other races
Tried to win support of Malays and Indians and gave them better treatment
Europeans were mostly imprisoned and killed
